Goodwater
There isn’t much that Cara hasn’t dabbled in during her eighteen years in hospitality. After stints in Vancouver and Glasgow, Cara relocated to Melbourne, where she headed the bar program at Bomba and started the popular YouTube channel Behind the Bar with Cara Devine. Now, she’s just stepped into bar ownership, opening Goodwater alongside a co-op of industry leaders.
What aspect of bartending gives you the most satisfaction and why?
I’ve always loved the personal connection side of things - my degree is actually in law, but the thought of sitting in an office every day didn’t really appeal to me! I love Goodwater for that as it is a neighbourhood bar and we have some wonderful regulars who have become friends.
At this stage of my career, I’m most passionate about education. Passing on the knowledge that I was granted by some great mentors to younger bartenders, but also educating non-bartenders on why our craft deserves respect.
